Dog Breath! What’s Causing my Dog’s Bad Breath?

I always assumed that all dogs had bad breath. Why else would dog breath be such a popular first-grade insult? I got my first dog at nineteen. While I was a little young for a dog, my puppy Henry taught me a lot. Including the fact that German Shepherds aren’t supposed to have bad dog breath.

It was also the first time I learned that holistic pet products could benefit dogs. Holistic dog care for oral issues is much healthier than many traditional treatments available through the veterinarian. Bad dog breath isn’t generally a natural trait of any breed, and offering them a good, regular holistic dog breath treatment can benefit them far beyond whether you cringe when they lick your face.

I looked into natural cures for Henry’s dog breath because I was dedicated to doing what was best for him. I had heard that using human mouthwash on dogs can be harmful, especially if you do it regularly. Natural cures for my dog’s bad breath seemed to work. He was a rescued puppy mill dog and seemed to need the extra care that herbal remedies tend to provide. Oral hygiene for dogs does more than clear up the dog’s bad breath. It helps to eliminate germs and bacteria that build up in their mouths.

Growing up, before holistic dog treatments were available, I was under the impression that giving a dog hard food and the occasional chewy bone would be enough to clean their teeth and help maintain reasonable breath. It certainly wasn’t minty fresh, just a brushed kind of breath, but it wasn’t something that would make my gag reflex respond if he got too close to me. Who knew that a dog’s bad breath was a sign of deteriorating oral health and that dogs need oral hygiene to stay healthy? It just wasn’t something that I had ever considered. Thankfully, Henry was patient with my need for education.

I tried some natural cures for the dog’s bad breath that didn’t go over too well. I had read that fresh herbs added to Henry’s dog food were a simple natural cure for a dog’s bad breath. But, of course, an herbal remedy only works if you can get the dog to tolerate it. So, when your pup spits out his dog food and refuses to eat, I call that an herbal remedy failure. This natural cure was derived from the wild animals that instinctively know which wild herbs to ingest when they need medical or dental assistance from Mother Nature. But unfortunately, domesticated puppies and dogs are not wild. Generally, they prefer the taste of dog food (and special dog treats) to the taste of the herbal salad on their usual meal.

Purchasing natural herbal remedies or holistic pet products that equalize the bacterial balance of a dog’s mouth can not only kill off the nasty dog breath aroma we find so offensive but can help keep their mouths free from tooth decay and other oral hygiene problems. Holistic remedies for happy dog breath is a holistic health plan for canine oral hygiene.
